Edward S Curtis Handmade Book

Branding, Design

This handcrafted book honored Edward S. Curtis’s iconic photographs of American Indian life, capturing the transition from traditional culture to Western influence. The cover featured a tan-ink-printed image on brown paper, with a carefully folded design creating notches for a GMUND Treasury belly band. The screen-printed belly band strategically covered the Native figure’s mouth, symbolizing the silencing and Westernization of Indigenous culture. The project highlighted both the beauty and complexity of Curtis’s work, offering a thoughtful exploration of cultural transformation.
